RFT Oklahoma added more three wins
Renovação Fight Team Oklahoma and Fight Science Center gym added three more fights to its winning record after the "Fists of Fury #2" MMA event last Saturday night. Kenny "Smash" Wogoman, a 170-pound welterweight, expanded his amateur record to 2-0 after defeating Jordan Bullock after three bloody rounds in which the fighters punched and kicked each other on their feet and fought hard on the ground. While Bullock was in shape and showed some striking skill, Wogoman managed to badly cut Bullock's right eye with his punches as well as dominate him on the ground resulting in a unanimous 30-27 decision for Wogoman. Derrick "Big Bang" Darling, a 155-pound fighter, easily dominated Ryan Neese on the ground for all three rounds resulting in a unanimous 30-27 decision for Darling. Neese could never get started standing up because Darling would push him to the cage and take him down with a slam, then easily dominate him while they were on the ground. "I wanted to show the Muskogee fans what RFT was all about. We have a lot of dangerous, well-rounded guys that can beat you standing or on the ground. Head Coach Ty Pilgrim is one of the best in the country and I think we're going to start showcasing that as fighters", he said. Assistant Fight Science Center children's coach Kelsey "Honey Badger" Sipes, a 121-pound high school senior, defeated Lakesha Gardner by a choke submission in the third round after a tough see-saw battle the first two rounds. Sipes is a Muay Thai kickboxing veteran, but wanted to try her hand at an MMA bout. "I'm glad I won my first MMA fight," said Sipes. "I look like I have been hit by a truck, but thank you all those that support me." In a disappointing development, the scheduled main event of the night was pulled at the last minute before the main bouts began. Professional fighter Marcus "Monster" Trey Penland was supposed to fight Rickey Compala at 170 pounds. Compala, however, had to miss the fight due to dehydration after the weigh-ins. Ty Pilgrim said, "I'm disappointed Marcus didn't get his fight, but proud of Kenny, Derrick, and Kelsey. I've already gotten calls from several states offering all four of them more fights. They worked hard for it. It was especially nice to see Kelsey get that choke against her opponent. I don't know that we've ever had a women's MMA bout here in Muskogee, and Kelsey set the bar. She had a lot of supporters out there. Our gym has girls that could fight anywhere at anytime, and they are proven. I will talk to all the fighters this week to see what we are planning on next."
